About MASTA

Medical Advisory Services For Travellers Abroad, or MASTA, is a global advisory service that was established in 1984 in England, and in 1988 in Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea.

For an annual subscription fee, MASTA provides up-to-date travel health advice for itineraries anywhere in the world. These services are used by doctors, pharmacists, pathologists, corporations, government departments and travel agents in Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea. Currently, over 900 medical centres and 8000 health professionals use these services. MASTA also provides limited health advice for non-subscribers.

All advice provided to MASTA subscribers is based on Australian and New Zealand standards and recommendations, set by the Australian National Health & Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and the NZ National Health Council (NHC). It is supplemented by information sourced from respected global organisations including the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Centers for Diseases Control and prevention (CDC). It includes vaccination, seasonal disease and malaria recommendations as well as the latest health news. Also included is the latest travel advisories from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), the NZ Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) and the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO).

All new information is assessed by internationally recognised experts in travel health to ensure validation and accuracy. Advice is maintained and updated regularly, daily when required, for over 265 countries and 84 disease conditions.

MASTA holds or participates regularly in continuing education seminars. MASTA sells personal vaccination booklets to record immunisations (International Health Certificate) which are mandatory for travel to many destinations worldwide. MASTA also publishes and sells a common-sense guide to malaria called "Taking the Mystery out of Malaria". Travellers can contact MASTA to find the nearest clinic that subscribes to MASTA, where the traveller can obtain a travel health brief, travel vaccinations and antimalarials.
